Bassdozer Alabama Jigs ~ Heavy Duty Flipping and Swimming Jigs

These are the same design as my world-famous Wisconsin jigs. The difference is the Alabama jigs sport heavier, flipping strength hooks required for the bigger bass that tend to be caught on heavier tackle while flipping or swimming jigs in grassy lakes down South, whether Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Texas or Louisiana. Anywhere big bass and grassy lakes or grass-choked tidal waters and deltas are found, anywhere you are going to be using heavy tackle, that's where to use Bassdozer Alabama jigs.

It's not only that the Alabama Swimming Jigs are heavy duty, but there's a difference designed into the swimming and gliding action of these jigs compared to my Wisconsin Jigs. This difference in action takes into consideration the heavier tackle that will be used, and the heavier grass and different nature of grass lakes found in the South, which requires a jig to be a little different in concept than one designed for the tackle, grass and ways that my Wisconsin Swimming Jigs are used in the North (and wherever else they apply). There's nothing you can really see, or anything you need to do to get this different swimming, gliding action. It's built into the Alabama Swimming Jigs for you. All you need to do is reel in - and be ready!

Use my Wisconsin jigs with light, medium and even medium/heavy tackle. Use my Alabama jigs with heavy tackle for flipping or swimming in the baddest grass and snags for the biggest bass!

Chrome and Nickel More Precious than Gold

Some of the hottest topwater lures in Bassdozer's Store this summer have not been any particular brand or model - but a finish.

A chrome or nickel plated finish has been the hot topwater ticket in 2011. The trend started among customers in the mid-Atlantic and south central US states, but as word got out, the chrome and nickel topwater craze has rippled across the country.

A true chrome or nickel finish is actually electroplated onto a lure body and although manufacturers don't necessarily charge more for the finish, it's a little more expensive and difficult for a manufacturer to have it done (compared to the typical painting process).

Anglers who are using the chrome or nickel plated lures say they work best on bright, sunny days, and the more  chrome, the better.

Any lures that have painted bellies or backs are not as desirable. Anglers are looking for 100% chromed bodies. If the belly or back (basically the entire body) isn't chromed, that isn't considered as good.

The exception would be in the case of a blue chrome lure, where the chrome shines through the pale blue, for example. Still, it is the flash of a 100% chrome lure that anglers believe has the best effect to attract fish with all its flash.

I have tested the chrome topwaters compared to other finishes. Even those with flashy silver sides but white bellies don't do as well as the 100% chrome colors on sunny days.

So give them a try and see if you don't agree that chrome and nickel are more precious than gold!

Mid-June Mornings on Lake Powell, Utah

Largemouth and smallmouth have been hitting BASSDOZER JIGS with great abandon the past few days on Lake Powell, Utah.

Most enjoyable are mornings when the fish are viciously striking BASSDOZER BUZZBAITS some (but not all) mornings - but the flipping jig bite is solid in super shallow water only a few feet deep - if even that deep!

The very back ends of any cuts that have green brush or scrub trees in the water plus tumbleweeds and/or floating debris are practically sure things! A mistake that's easy to make is to think an area is too shallow! Some of the fish are coming out of one foot of water!

We continue to rack up good morning catches in super shallow water on Lake Powell as evidenced by this brace of beauties caught by Bill Bjork flipping a BASSDOZER ALABAMA JIG with watermelon candy color skirt and Yamamoto double tail grub trailer.

Above, an example of the jigs that have been working well. This is my 1/2 oz BASSDOZER FLIP'N SWIM JIG WITH A BLUEGILL SKIRT. The trailer is a MegaStrike Mega Bug with gold and purple glitter flakes. We also flipped my 1/2 oz ALABAMA JIG and my 3/8 oz WISCONSIN JIG.

As it gets a little later in the morning, largies and smallies are hitting the 3/8 oz BASSDOZER FLAT SHAKEY JIG with Berkley Chigger Craw screwed on the wire corkscrew keeper clip. Fish right out from the shallow areas described above, wherever you see a pronounced ledge or drop-off with color change from light (shallow) to dark (relatively deeper) bottom. This is a sweet "minimalist" presentation that the fish can't refuse!
