Deps Buster K ~ Hollow Topwater Frog

Body Length: 2.4" (61mm) not counting tail
Weight: 1/2 oz

One of Japan’s hottest sellers, the Buster K is a unique topwater hollow popper frog. It features a rattling weight inside, rabbit hair legs, and a big, fat, loud mouth that bass just want to bust!

Items in photo not included with item for sale.

The mouth is quite cupped for two clever purposes. First, to make a sharp and powerful pop sound. Second, water pressure (or lily pads, branches,  etc.) pushing back against the cupped mouth minimizes the distance the Buster K moves forward. Most other frogs leave the area where bass are hiding under cover way too quickly – and without making the bass mad enough to take a good crack at them. In other words, lazy bass let them get away. However, the Buster K hangs around and bothers a bass to no end…until it takes aggressive action to lash out to silence this vexing, blabber-mouthed pest.

There’s a free-ranging metal weight inside that moves to the rear to enhance casting distance and accuracy, then it hits against internal parts and rolls around inside to add sound and a little imbalance to the action.

The hooks have the barb on the outside of the point – so the barb is facing up – and the inside or downward side of the point is smooth against the frog’s skin, thereby minimizing the damage to the body by the barb.

Which Deps Frog to Use When?

Deps offers 3 great hollow frogs now - the Basirisky Hardbelly (center), Slither K (left) and Buster K (right). Not included with item for sale.

Deps founder and lure designer, Okumura explained some of the differences between them, when best to use each one - especially how to combine their use for most effectiveness. He says, "Of course it all depends on the conditions in the field...I really can't give you the exact science when the fish are going to want the Slither K where it's gliding along, versus the Buster K where the sound of the pop is calling them." When Okumura ffrog fishes, he brings all three and he lets the fish tell him what's better, adding, "It's not like you can observe the conditions in the field and see that it's just so that you can predict which one will get bit. It's tough to say when to use what - or what's better. If it is windy, however, when the wind blows, the Buster K is definitely the number one lure. If it's windy, the Slither K won't work. The wind will overpower the action of the bait. In open water, the easiest to use would be the Basirisky, and in the very thick grass, the Slither K is the easiest to walk through thick grass."
