How to Walk the Dog with a Spook: The Spook is a "walk the dog" lure, a retrieve that causes the bait to zigzag like a confused prey. To produce this action, start slowly with a slack line, and twitch the rod tip. The Spook should dart left or right. Repeat the twitch and it will dart in the other direction. Put your twitches together in a constant rhythm to make the lure dart left-right-left-right-left-right. This action, along with the sound produced by a Spook, drives bass crazy and provokes surface-blasting strikes.

The Zara Puppy is a 3-inch version of the original Heddon Zara Spook. The Zara puppy is a lightweight lure for light tackle, for small size gamefish and for small bodies of water such as streams or ponds.

Heddon Zara Spooks like the Zara puppy are designed to allow you to control and creat the lure's action. This is done with a slack line twitch of the rod tip that creates the left right, "walk-the-dog' action for which these lures are famous. it takes a little practice, and it's bst to start slowly. Once you've obtained the zigzag motion, then you may increase the speed.

Fish often strike and miss topwater lures, so be sure to allow the line to tighten up before setting the hook. if a fish explodes on the surface lure, but you do not feel the fish oin the line, just keep working the Zara Puppy like nothing happened, and the fish will often strike multiple times until it gets a solid hold of the lure.
