Overview

Size comparison of Mikey Jr. (top), Mikey (center) and Mikey Sr. (bottom).

NameSizeWeightDepthType
Jackall Mikey Jr.3.8" / 95mm5/8 oz / 17g0-2'Floating. Jointed. Surface and subsurface swimmer.
Jackall Mikey5.5" / 140mm1-1/8 oz / 32g0-3'Floating. Jointed. Surface and subsurface swimmer.
Jackall Mikey Sr.6.4"2 oz / 57g0-2'Floating. Jointed. Surface and subsurface swimmer.

All three sizes can be made to swim across the surface slowly, leaving a wake. They are also able to swim a foot or two below the surface when reeled with the rod held low. Including periods of no reeling so the lures rise up to, bounce and bob on the surface - deadsticking - can also be effective at times during the retrieve and under certain conditions varying from calm to choppy, windy surfaces.

The Mikey Jr has a long, chunky segmented body. Although bulky for its 3-3/4 inch size, it is not a big bait. It weighs in at a hefty 5/8 oz and casts well on either spinning or baitcasting gear.

The Mikey Jr. is a size that's favored by anglers who fish for big smallmouth or spotted bass. These species don't grow as big - or go for as big a bait - as their largemouth cousins. So if you're looking to land some hefty spots or smallies, then the Mikey Jr. may be the perfect size for you. Of course it's good for average size largemouth too.

It excels on a slow retrieve. It is at its best when slowly crawled across the surface. At times, experiment with slow steady pulls and pauses. Even deadsticking on the surface, especially when there's a little wind drift, water movement or ripple to bounce the three body parts around, can be effective due to the disjointed nature of the three-piece body. Fish will rise up and strike it even while it lies motionless.

It works best of all under relatively fair weather conditions and on a relatively slow retrieve. Get the Mikey Jr moving just right, and it's impressive how life-like it may appear. You can have a lot of fun clobbering bass - or actually, they'll be the ones clobbering you and the Mikey Jr. It's fun, enjoyable and quite productive!

The Jackall Mikey is one of the best jointed swim baits in the world. The Mikey is not gigantic, but it's a fairly bulky 5-1/2 inch, three-piece jointed bait.

The Mikey will dive down to 3 feet on a moderate speed with the rod tip down. It will also create a big wake on the surface water when fished with your rod tip held up. To stay on or near the surface, the best retrieve speed is slowly. It's sometimes best to intersperse sudden stops that cause the triple-jointed body to react nicely (and trigger strikes) in between slow reeling. Even deadsticking on the surface, especially when there's a little wind drift or ripple to bounce the three body parts around, can be effective due to the disjointed nature of the three-piece body.
